This term “Catch and Release” is well known amongst all anglers across North America and throughout the world. It essentially refers to the popular and ever growing practice of angling game fish by fish friendly sporting methods and with sporting equipment and then releasing them alive after the catch. This is more humanitarian in outlook and also refers to the ever increasing awareness to the conservation. It is a voluntary practice, based upon ethics, empathy and traditional concepts; however, more and more gaming areas now have mandatory catch and release policies to protect dwindling fish populations.

Many anglers now strongly encourage catch and release fishing, whether it is because of personal belief or a management tool to preserve the environment. Catch and Release refers to more than just letting go fish that you have caught just now. There are also several survival issues revolving around injury and stress to the fish, how the fish is hooked, how they are played and handled and how they are landed. Means, issues crop up on the whole operation of catching fish. Nets and gills can also be very damaging to fish; just as unhooking them as well.
